Monz is New Madonna Head Football Coach | News, Sports, Jobs

Madonna named Mauro Monz the new head football coach on Tuesday.

Monz has 25 years of coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, and youth levels.

After graduating from Seton LaSalle High School in 1992, Monz attended Duquesne University, where he was twice named All-Metro Atlantic Conference defensive back (’94, ’95) and was Co-Captain of the 1995 AA Non-Scholarship National Championship Team.

Monz finished the 1995 season as a First Team All-American Defensive Back and graduated as the Duquesne Dukes’ all-time leader in interceptions.

In 1997, Monz accepted his first collegiate coaching role under Robert Morris University’s esteemed Head Coach Joe Walton. During his time at RMU, Coach Monz held several roles including Quarterback Coach, and was a major contributor to RMU’s five NEC Championships.

Some of the additional highlights from Monz’s 25 years in coaching include: setting offensive records as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach for his alma mater Duquesne University in 2001-03; becoming the youngest Head Coach at any level in the country as the Head Football Coach at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 2003; coaching five All-Conference Wide Receivers for the Akron Zips; leading Robert Morris to the University’s first championship run in a decade, and the school’s first NCAA 1AA playoff appearance, in 2010; serving as Head Coach for Carlynton High School in 2014; then serving as the Offensive Coordinator at Mt. Lebanon High School, where the Blue Devils’ explosive offense averaged nearly 30 points per game; and helping to spark the resurgence of Baldwin High School’s football program, where he worked alongside WPIAL’s 2018 Coach of the Year, Loren Cooley.

“I would like to thank Athletic Director Michael Arlia, Principal Jamie Lesho and the entire search committee at Madonna High School for the opportunity to be their next Head Football coach. It is truly an honor, and I am grateful for this opportunity. There is great tradition, history, and pride in the Madonna football program. I look forward to meeting all the kids and being immersed in the community. We have a lot of work to do between now and our opening game, but it is truly an exciting time to be at Madonna. I can’t wait to get to work! Go Donations!” says Monz.

A brief but intense search and interview process among many talented and highly qualified candidates ultimately led to the selection of Monz as the coach.

“This is an exciting time for the entire Madonna Family,” said Jamie Lesho, Principal Madonna High School. “The Committee worked and let the process work through and in the end, we believe we have the best candidate for the job. Madonna Football is ready to move forward.”

Coach Monz will be holding a parent and interested football players meeting on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 7:00 PM at the Madonna Football Locker room, which is located behind Madonna High School.
