Do, Hornbeck, Marcheli reach state tennis tournament

Fort Bend ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD will be represented among the best in Class 5A, both earning a place in one bracket at the state tennis tournament.

Kempner’s Noey Do will compete in boys singles after winning the Region III-5A championship in Willis. The Foster boys doubles team of Spencer Hornbeck and Dylan Marcheli won a playback match at the regional tournament to advance to state.

The state tournament is scheduled for April 26-27 at the Blossom Tennis Center, Annemarie Tennis Center and Northside Tennis Center in San Antonio. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches are set for the first day, with the finals played the following morning.

Do will face Lubbock’s Andrew Azatian in the quarterfinals after a convincing run through Region II-5A. He did not lose a set, starting with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Lake Creek’s Ricky Koesters and a 6-0, 6-0 win against Pflugerville Connally’s Sammy Cortez during the first day of competition.
