Huskies tennis squad sweeps to shutout win over CD East | News, Sports, Jobs

LEWISTOWN – Mifflin County took care of business and defeated Central Dauphin East in tennis action by the final score of 5-0 Thursday.

There were only four matches played as Jaron Yoder received a forfeit. In the four matches that were played, the Huskies won them all in straight sets.

Zander Crader and Gunnar Wagner won their first set by the final of 6-4 before closing the match with a 6-0 victory.

Mifflin County travels to Palmyra on Tuesday.

COCOLAMUS – East Juniata overpowered Sugar Valley with a 17-0 victory in a non-league softball game Thursday.

Brenna Watts went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and four RBIs. Macy Buskey was also 3-for-3 with a triple and also drove in four runs.

East Juniata faces cross-county rival Juniata on Monday.

HARRISBURG – With one swing of the bat, Central Dauphin walked it off and defeated Mifflin County 6-5 in a Mid-Penn Conference softball game Thursday.

Going into the bottom half of the seventh with a 5-3 lead, the Huskies got the first two outs before giving up a three-run homer that won the Rams the game.

Dakota Hershberger was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double for the Huskies. Madison Wolfgang went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Mifflin County hosts Chambersburg on Tuesday.

DANVILLE – Late-inning scoring carried Danville over Midd-West by a 7-6 in Heartland Athletic Conference softball game Thursday.

The Mustangs went into the bottom of the sixth inning with a 6-4 lead before Danville dropped three runs in the frame to pull ahead for the win.

Sarah Shupp was 2-for-4 at the plate and had a home run and a double along with two RBIs.

Midd-West travels to Mifflinburg today.

SPRING MILLS – Juniata struggled to contain the Penns Valley offense as the Indians were defeated 10-0 in a non-league softball game on Thursday.

Juniata’s offense was held to just three hits in the game with Elizabeth Gaisior, Alexea Frontz and Navi Jackson each collecting one.

Juniata travels to East Juniata on Monday.

Baseball

Mount Union 6, Southern Huntingdon 4

MOUNT UNION – Mount Union held off a late-charging Southern Huntingdon and came out victorious 6-4 in an Inter-County Conference baseball game Thursday.

Bryce Danish threw a complete game for the Trojans and had five strikeouts and two walks. At the plate, Danish added a double and a RBI.

Mount Union hosts Curwensville Tuesday.

MILLERSTOWN – Late scoring carried Greenwood past the Juniata 12-11 in Tri-Valley League baseball action Thursday.

The Wildcats were down 11-10 going into the bottom of the seventh and scored two runs in the frame to get the walk-off win.

Grant Reinhold was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs while Jordan Dickinson went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Indians.

Juniata hosts East Juniata on Monday.

HARRISBURG – Both the Mifflin County boys and girls’ teams defeated Central Dauphin East in a Mid-Penn Conference track and field meet Thursday.

For the boys, the Huskies defeated the Panthers 93-57. Caden Kauffman won in two events, the first being the high jump event with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches, and then in the triple jump going 40-8.

On the girls side, the Huskies won 99-51. Mifflin County athletes won 11 events and in six of those events, the Huskies swept to a 1-2-3 finish.

Mifflin County hosts Cumberland Valley on Tuesday.
