Men’s Tennis Earns Road Win at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, PA. (April 11, 2022) – The Morgan State men’s tennis team defeated the Bloomsburg Huskies, 6-1, in a non-conference action Monday afternoon at Burt Reese Tennis Center.

The Bears improved to 8-6 overall for the season, while Bloomsburg fell to 3-10.

Morgan picked up the doubles point and never looked back, building a 5-0 lead before the Huskies finally got on the scoreboard when Albert Martin took down Makkijha Brown 6-2, 6-2 on court 2.

Niles Rachal clinched the victory, following the efforts of Sebastian Lopez and Rhajzon Rankins.

Martial Kawunde wrapped up the day for the Bears by coming out victorious on court 6 with a hard fought 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 win against Chaitanya Choudhary.

“It felt good to see my boys supporting me,” Kawunde said. “I’m happy I came out with the dub.”

Lopez sped through his match with Oliver Wiesemann on court 4 for a 6-0, 6-1 victory, and Rankins posted a 6-1, 6-1 win against Vini Moura on court 5.

Niles Rachal, the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week, continues to his win column. The freshman pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Fernando Barros on court 3. Rachal improves to 9-2 in singles action and has won his last seven matches.

Morgan’s top doubles pair secured the initial point with ease. Rhajzon Rankins and Niles Rachal won 6-1 against Vini Moura and Chaitanya Choudhary. Rankin and Rachal improved their doubles record to 10-3 for the season. Mikeal Carpenter and Nihit Rawal recorded a 6-1 win against Robin Luetzig and Albert Martin.on court 1.
