Wachusett boys’ tennis team faces tough schedule

HOLDEN – Twenty-two year head coach Tony Brissette is as well-respected as any coach in Central Mass high school tennis, so when he refers to one of his players as the most well-rounded he has ever seen in a Wachusett Regional High uniform , it warrants attention.

Team leader Ryan Carroll has competed at the No. 1 position in singles for all three of his years on the high school team and is in his second year as captain. He has earned the respect of teammates and coaches, with Brissette referring to him as “a pleasure to coach and, most importantly, a quality person.” Carroll will be playing tennis in the fall for Roger Williams College.

“Ryan has a very positive attitude in everything he does. He works hard at his game, ”said Brissette of his senior team leader. “He plays year-round and plays against some tough opponents in the offseason. His ground strokes are very good, and his serve is good. He’s one of the best players I’ve coached here. ”

“I’ve taken lessons, and I practice as much as I can and am trying to be in the best shape I can be in,” said Carroll of his commitment to the game. “Everyone gets along really well. We have a lot of friendly people who all work hard at practice. We all want to win, so we have a common goal. ”
